The Washington National Cathedral, officially called the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and designated by Congress as the non-denominational National House of Prayer, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church in the United States, popularly called the Episcopal Church USA. Located in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, it is the sixth largest cathedral in the world and second largest in the United States. The cathedral is the official seat of both the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church USA and its Diocese of Washington, composed of the District of Columbia and the Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s Counties in Maryland.
