The Hieronymites Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) is located in the Belem district of Lisbon, Portugal. This magnificent monastery can be considered one of the most prominent monuments in Lisbon and is certainly one of the most successful achievements of the Manueline style (portuguese late-Gothic). In 1983 it was classified by the UNESCO, with nearby Torre de Belem, as a World Heritage Site. Lisbon is great city for summer vacations, with historical and cultural touris spots. Melk

Melk is a city of Austria, in the federal state of Lower Austria, next to the Wachau valley along the Danube. Melk has a population of 5,222 (as of 2001). The area around Melk was given to Margrave Leopold I in the year 976 to serve as a buffer between the Turks and Huns to east and Bavaria to the west. In 996 mention was first made of an area known as Ostarichi – which is recognized as the origin of the word Oesterreich (German for Austria). The bluff which holds the current monastery held a Babenberger castle until the site was given to Benedictine monks from nearby Lambach by Margrave Leopold II in 1089. Melk received market rights in 1227 and became a municipality in 1898. In a very small area, Melk presents a great deal of architectural variety from many centuries. Nice Austria travel deals.

Paro Taktsang is solitary of the mainly prominent monasteries popular Bhutan. The Alcobaca Monastery is a mediaeval monastery located in the town of Alcobaca, in central Portugal. It was founded by the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques, in 1153, and maintained a close association with the Kings of Portugal throughout its history.

The church and monastery were the first Gothic buildings in Portugal, and, together with the Monastery of Santa Cruz in Coimbra, it was one of the most important of the mediaeval monasteries in Portugal. Abu Mena was a town, monastery complex and Christian pilgrimage center in Late Antique Egypt, about 45 km southwest of Alexandria. Its remains were designated a World Heritage Site in 1979. There are very few standing remains, but the foundations of most major buildings, such as the great basilica, are easily discernible. Recent agricultural efforts in the area have led to a significant rise in the water table, which has caused a number of the site’s buildings to collapse or become unstable. The site was added to the list of threatened World Heritage Sites in 2001. Egypt travel guides.

Recoleta is a neighbourhood (barrio) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This typical “French architecture-style” district is known for it’s squares, parks, cafés, galleries and the Cementerio de la Recoleta (Recoleta Cemetery), one of Argentina’s most important cemeteries. The neighborhood was named after the Convento de los Recoletos Descalzos (The Monastery of Barefoot Franciscan Recoleto Monks). Lot of interesting travel guides in Argentina.
