The White Tower of Thessaloniki is a monument and museum on the waterfront of the city of Thessaloniki, capital of the region of Macedonia in Federal Greece. Originally constructed by the Ottomans to modify the city’s harbour, it became a disreputable prison and scene of mass executions during the period of Ottoman rule. It was substantially remodeled and its exterior was whitewashed after Greece gained curb of the city in 1912. It has been adopted as the symbol of the city.
The Tower is now a buff colour but has preserved the name White Tower. It now stands on Thessaloniki’s waterfront boulevard, Nikis (Victory) Street. It houses a museum dedicated to the history of Salonica and is one of the city’s leading tourist attractions. The National Historical Museum of Brazil, created in 1922, is one of the most important historical museums in Brazil, consisting of over 287,000 items, among which the largest numismatic collection of Latin America. The architectonic complex that houses the museum had its beginning with the construction of the Santiago Fort, at the Calaboose Point, one of the strategic places for the defense of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Created in August 1922, by decree of President Epitácio Pessoa the National Historical Museum starts its activities in October, integrating the Centennial Exhibition, in two special rooms of the Casa do Trem (Ammunition Depot).

Along these 75 years of continuous activities, the Museum assembled the largest collection under the guard of the Ministry of Culture and has become an important center of culture, occupying gradually all the architectural complex of the Calaboose Point, where the Santiago Fort was once situated. The first one to run an official museology course that served as a starting point for the formation of other important Brazilian museums, the National Historical Museum became internationally known in the 1940′s. The National Museum of China flanks the eastern side of Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. The mission of the museum is to educate about the arts and history of China. It is directed by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China. The museum was formed in 2003 out of two separate museums that already occupied the building: the Museum of the Chinese Revolution in the northern wing and the National Museum of Chinese History in the southern.
The Museum of the Chinese Revolution had been open since 1960 and had its origins in the Office of the National Museum of the Revolution, founded in 1950.
