Campeche is the capital city of the , on the shore of the . The city’s population at the 2005 census was 211,671 people. The municipality for which it serves as municipal seat had a population of 238,850. The city was founded in 1540 by as San Francisco de Campeche atop the pre-existing of Canpech or Kimpech. The Pre- was described as having 3,000 houses and various monuments, of which little trace remains. The city retains many of the old colonial Spanish city walls and fortifications which protected the city (not always successfully) from pirates and buccaneers. The state of preservation and quality of its architecture earned it the status of a Site in 1999. Taos Pueblo, New Mexico
Taos Pueblo (or Pueblo de Taos) is an ancient pueblo belonging to a Northern Tiwa speaking Native American tribe of Pueblo people. It is approximately 1000 years old and lies about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the modern city of Taos, New Mexico, USA. The , or , is a small stream which flows through the middle of the pueblo from its source in the . A reservation of 95,000 acres (384 km²) is attached to the pueblo, and about 1,900 people live in this area. In the Northern Tiwa language, the name of Taos is Tua-tah, which means “our village.” Taos Pueblo is a member of the .
