However, surrounding this delightful city is a world of nature activities. Just 10 minutes outside of Hershey slumbers a number of caves that have been explored by many. You should join those many explorers and navigate towards Indian Echo Caverns in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania.

The Susquehannock Indians once used these caves as a place of refuge from the early to mid 1600s. After being vacated by the natives, they became occupied and possessed by French hunters within the 17th century. As fur stocks depleted, they left and an old hermit took over the cave for 19 years. When they next became empty, they were made available for ordinary folks to enjoy. And fortunately this is still the case; a public attraction to satisfy the interests of many.

As you walk in, you’ll be greeted by a statue of a Susquehannock Indian known as Chief Kumsee, leading the way to the ticket outlet. A gift shop sells tickets to the cavern tours. And once you purchase your tickets, there a number of additional things to enjoy until you’re ready to go in. You’ll encounter a station in which you can pan for gemstones, in addition to a little petting zoo to certainly occupy you as you wait for your turn to tour.

Crowded with crevices, stalactites and stalagmites, these caverns boast 440 million years of age. You’ll spend 45 minutes exploring the caverns as the escort tells you stories and facts about each room. You’ll see an Indian Ballroom, a tunnel in pitch darkness plus a Wedding Chapel, which is a narrow cavern with grand, glistening sculptures that remarkably similar to a wedding cake. About 40 marriage ceremonies have occurred here.

As your excursion winds up, you will be lead back to the great opening from which you came. It is something worth seeing, not simply because of its geological formations that are so neat, but because it’s some of the oldest ground on the earth. Dinosaurs at some pointed roamed above these caverns. Of course, knowing the magnificence of these caverns is one thing, but experiencing them while climbing is quite another. The main point to consider, is to shod your feet in sturdy footwear and keep an eye open for water. While you are in the region of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, don’t forget to keep in mind that is likely that there are many diverse alternatives for places to stay, that include hotels, chain motels, romantic travel inns and also amazing Bluegreen resort options offered from the Bluegreen corporation.

one of the main reasons that people actually choose to go on a short break or vacation to Devon is because of the amazing history that can be found there. Of course it is not just history here, there are amazing beaches, national parks and groups of very nice people. However for this I am going to be diving into the history of the place a bit more so without further ado, a look into the history of Devon!

The Name

One of the many things people want to know about Devon is where does the name come from? the name itself comes from the Celtic people that first found the land and settled there, they were know as the Dumonii which meant deep valley dwellers.

The Settlers

It would seem that Devon is one of the very first places in which people were settling down after the ice age and Dartmoor came to be home to hunters around the year 6000 BC, a very long time ago indeed. Once this was over the Romans came in and held the area for over 250 years and once this happened a frontier absorbed it and Wessex took over in the 9th century. It has played a big part in many of the civil wars/conflicts that have happened in England.

Of course it isn’t all about history when it comes to Devon and the seaside resort of Torquay is a great place to visit. Why not try holidays in Torquay or spa breaks here for something a bit different. You could even go on Christmas holidays here!

Devon is a great place to visit and although one of those reasons is the history there are many other things to do and see so make sure you go there!

Arundel castle is of course a very old building and it was founded by Roger de Montogomery on Christmas Day 1067 and he actually became the very first person out there to hold the earldom of Arundel by William the Conqueror. The castle was built and then later damaged during the time of the English civil war, they managed to restore it to its former glory in the 18th and 19th centuries. This is a big reason why people get holidays Sussex in this area.

The castle was first built in 1086 and was built as major fortification for the mouth of the River Arun. Once Roger died the property went to the hands of the King of the time, Henry I.

During the medieval time period it would seem that mostly it was just handed down to various people and the place saw a lot of owners during these years. The crown once again seized the property after Thomas Howard was executed for conspiring to marry Mary Queen of Scots, it was later returned to the heir of the Earl and all was restored.

The Howard family then kept the castle but did nothing to it as they had wanted to resore other buildings until the castle came into the hands of Charles Howard. 1787 was the year in which he started doing work to the castle and this carried on for many years indeed, he had a big party to celebrate the finished product and then died shortly afterwards.

Queen Victoria paid a visit to the castle in 1846 and enjoyed the experience , the 14th Duke then started even more work on the castle and this is how you see it today held by the 18th Duke.

The great thing about the castle is that most of it is open to the public so make sure that if you can you can take a break from that web design job in that serviced offices Soho office and get out there to pay it a visit!

The sinking of the titanic will hit 100 in 2012. A company is setting up a trans-Atlantic cruise to do the exact same route.

8th April 2012 is the date that the ship is departing as it is exaclty 100 years since the Titanic set sail. It is also leaving from the exact same port as the original which of course is Southampton. Because the company wishes to make the trip realsitc they are going to be stopping in Ireland like the orginal.

The ship is going to arrive on the spot where the Titanic sunk at 11.40 which is when it hit the iceburg. The vessal is likely to stay in this area till around 2am.20am which was when the ship was fully under water.

During these hours the ship will actually have a memorial service to remember the awful accident that occured here. There will also be lectures on board as well as food and music from the era.

The ship is going to have a lot of cabins to contain 1,350 passengers as well as 150 crew members. The prices start at around $3,900 which although sounding expensive could be the perfect gift for a history lover. This is truly going to be the luxury cruise of a life time.

It could be that you are a fan of the film in which you are still likely to be interested in this as a lot of the film was based on the historic event even though the main Rose and Jack were fictional.

Of course most of the cheaper cabins for the price above have already sold out so perhaps if you are interested in taking a cruise you should think about taking another cruise like one of those Rhine River Cruises or perhaps Silversea cruises would be a better move to make.
