Rundetarn (Rundetaarn) is a 17th century tower located in Copenhagen, Denmark. The tower is part of the Trinitatis complex, which was built to provide the scholars of the time with an astronomical observatory, a student church and a university library. One of his most well-known buildings, Rundetarn was built upon request from King Christian IV and designed by architect Hans Steenwinckel the Younger. The foundation stone was laid on July 7, 1637, and the tower was finished in 1642. The Trinitatis church was not finished until 1656, and the library not until 1657. The observatory (which is the oldest functioning observatory in Europe) and the library were used by the University of Copenhagen until 1861. Astronomers having used the observatory include Ole Rømer (1644-1710) and Peder Horrebow (1679-1764). Back when it was first built, it was for the students who lived in little dormitories to study in the observatory and the library. Copenhagen is one of top vacation destinations.

Amalienborg Palace is the winter home of the Danish royal family, and is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It consists of four identical classicizing palace façades with rococo interiors around an octagonal courtyard (Amalienborg Slotsplads); in the center of the square is a monumental equestrian statue of Amalienborg’s founder, King Frederik V. Nyhavn (lit. “New Harbor”) is a popular area in Copenhagen, Denmark with both locals and tourists. Starting from the memorial anchor at Kongens Nytorv, the street is lined with many small bars and restaurants facing out to a picturesque harbor. In warmer weather people fill every available table in the outdoors seating area in front of every restaurant. And even in cooler weather the heartier types sit outdoors with a beer and a blanket, provided by the restaurant on each seat, over their legs. While not extremely expensive, the restaurants are not cheap. Great travel city to relax and forget all the worries.

Tivoli Gardens is a famous amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. The park opened on August 15, 1843 and, except for Dyrehavsbakken in nearby Klampenborg, it is the oldest amusement park which has survived intact to the present day. It was first called “Tivoli & Vauxhall”: “Tivoli” alluding to the Jardin de Tivoli in Paris (which in its turn had been named from Tivoli near Rome), and “Vauxhall” alluding to the Vauxhall Gardens in London.
Tivoli’s founder, Georg Carstensen (b. 1812 – d. 1857) obtained a five-year charter to create Tivoli by telling King Christian VIII that “when the people are amusing themselves, they do not think about politics”. The monarch granted Carstensen use of roughly 15 acres (61,000 m²) of the fortified glacis outside Vesterport (the West Gate) at the annual rent of 945 kroner. Therefore, until the 1850s, Tivoli was outside the city, accessible through Vesterport.
From the very start, Tivoli included a variety of attractions: buildings in the exotic style of an imaginary Orient: a theatre, band stands, restaurants and cafés, flower gardens, and mechanical amusement rides such as a merry-go-round and a primitive scenic railway. After dark, coloured lamps illuminated the gardens. On certain evenings, specially designed fireworks could be seen reflected in Tivoli’s lake.
