Rogers Centre, formerly known as SkyDome, is a multi-purpose stadium in Toronto, Ontario, situated next to the CN Tower near the shores of Lake Ontario. It is home to the American League’s Toronto Blue Jays, the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts, the site of the annual International Bowl American college football bowl game, and as of 2008, the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills’ second playing venue. The CN Tower, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is the world’s tallest freestanding structure on land, standing 553.33 meters (1,815 ft 5 in) tall. It is considered the signature icon of the city, attracting more than two million international visitors annually. If you are in Toronto must see tourism attractions.
CN originally referred to Canadian National, the railway company that built the tower. Following the railway’s decision to divest non-core freight railway assets, prior to the company’s privatization in 1995, the CN Tower was transferred to the Canada Lands Company (CLC), a federal Crown corporation responsible for real estate development. Since local residents wished to retain the name CN Tower, the abbreviation is now said to expand to Canada’s National Tower rather than the original Canadian National Tower; however, neither of these is commonly used. Emporis and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, consider the CN Tower to be the world’s tallest free-standing structure, but do not consider the CN Tower to be a true building, and therefore award the title of world’s tallest building to Taipei 101, which is 44m shorter than the CN Tower. Disputing this determination, the Guinness World Records has listed the CN Tower as the world’s tallest building since its completion in 1976 (citation needed), and the tower’s official website makes a similar claim.
