The Chicago Water Tower is a contributing property in the Old Chicago Water Tower District landmark district. It is located at 806 North Michigan Avenue along the Magnificent Mile shopping district in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois. Located adjacent to Loyola University Chicago’s downtown campus, the Water Tower serves as the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau Visitor’s Welcome Center. Although it now emphasizes live performances of popular music, it once served as a motion picture theatre. For several decades, it was the city’s premier movie theater. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 6, 1979, and it was listed as a Chicago Landmark on January 28, 1983.
