Teatre Lliure

The Teatre Lliure is a theatre in considered one of the most prestigious in . It was created in 1976 in the neighborhood of Gràcia by a group of professionals from Barcelona’s scene. It became distinguished for its practice of presenting theater in Catalan, its revisiting of classics, and its penchant for contemporary theater. Its first staged play in its original location (La Lleialtat factory in Gràcia) was Camí de nit, by Lluís Pasqual, in 1976. The Teatre Lliure is not only a place of exhibition, but also a cooperative society that makes its own productions, many of which have been exported to other cities across Europe and America. Atocha Station is the largest in . It is the primary station serving commuter trains (Cercanías), intercity and regional trains from the south, and the AVE high speed trains from () and (). These train services are run by the Spanish national rail company, Renfe. The station was Madrid’s first railway station. It was inaugurated on 9 February 1851 under the name Estación de Mediodía (Atocha-Mediodía is now the name of an area of the Arganzuela district, and means in old Spanish south). After the building was largely destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt and reopened in 1892. The architect for the replacement, in a wrought iron renewal style was Alberto de Palacio Elissagne, who collaborated with Gustave Eiffel. Madrid has equal like sightseeings tours.

The Gotic (‘’ in Catalan) is the centre of the old city of . It stretches from to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere. Despite several changes undergone in the 19th and early 20th century, many of the buildings date from Medieval times, some from as farther back as the Roman deciding of Barcelona.

Remains of the squared can be seen around Tapineria and Sots-Tinent to the north, Avinguda de and to the westerly and Carrer de la Palla to the south. El Call, the medieval Jewish quarter, is located within this area too. The retains a complex street plan, with many diminutive streets opening discover into squares. Most of the quarter is closed to regular traffic although unstoppered to service vehicles and taxis. Barcelona is best for fun holidays.

Casa is a building restored by Antoni Gaudí and Josep Maria Jujol, built in the year 1877 and remodelled in the years 1905–1907; located at 43, Passeig de Gràcia (passeig is Catalan for promenade or avenue), part of the Illa de la Discòrdia in the Eixample district of , .

The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), and indeed it does have a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It was originally designed for a middle-class family and situated in a prosperous district of Barcelona. The building looks very remarkable — like everything Gaudí designed, only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, is rather astonishing with tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work. It seems that the goal of the designer was to avoid straight lines completely. Much of the façade is decorated with a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles (trencadís) that starts in shades of golden orange moving into greenish blues. The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of centre, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the sword of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon. It was designed by the Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It is part of the “Works of Antoni Gaudí”. The park was originally part of a commercially unsuccessful housing site, the idea of Count Eusebi Güell, whom the park was named after. It was inspired by the English garden city movement; hence the original English name Park. The site was a rocky hill with little vegetation and few trees, called Muntanya Pelada (Bare Mountain). It already included a large country house called Larrard House or Muntaner de Dalt House, and was next to a neighborhood of upper class houses called La Salud. The intention was to exploit the fresh air (well away from smoky factories) and beautiful views from the site, with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses. Great summer for 2008.
