Burj Dubai is a under construction in the supertall Dubai, , and is the highest artificial structure ever built, despite being incomplete. Construction began on September 21, 2004, and it is expected that the tower is finished and ready for occupation by September 2009. The Burj al-Arab (“Tower of the Arabs”) is a luxury hotel in Dubai, the second largest city of the , and was briefly marketed as “the world’s first seven-star hotel”. It was designed by Tom Wright of WS Atkins PLC. At 321 metres (1,053 ft), it is the tallest building used exclusively as a hotel.

It stands on an artificial island 280 metres (919 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai’s urban transformation and to mimic the shape of an Arab dhow.
