The Teatro Colon (Colon Theatre) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is one of the world’s major opera houses. The present theatre, the second with that name, opened in 1908 after twenty years under construction. The auditorium is horseshoe-shaped, has 2,487 seats (slightly more than, say, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, England), standing room for 1,000 and a stage which is 20 m wide, 15 m high and 20 m deep. The Obelisk of Buenos Aires is a modern monument placed at the heart of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Porteños refer to it simply as El Obelisco.
The obelisk was built in May 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first founding of the city. It is located in the center of the Plaza de la República (Republic Square), the spot where the Argentine flag was flown for the first time in Buenos Aires, at the intersection of Nueve de Julio and Corrientes avenues. Its total height is 67 meters (220 feet) and its base area is 49 square meters (530 square feet). It was designed by architect Alberto Prebisch, and its construction took barely four weeks. Recoleta is a neighbourhood (barrio) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This typical “French architecture-style” district is known for it’s squares, parks, cafés, galleries and the Cementerio de la Recoleta (Recoleta Cemetery), one of Argentina’s most important cemeteries. San Telmo
San Telmo is one of the oldest barrios (neighborhoods) of Buenos Aires, Argentina and also one of the best preserved areas of that constantly changing Argentine municipality and is characterized with a number of complex buildings. Cafes, tango parlors and alter shops line up the cobblestone (adoquines) streets, which are filled with artists and dancers. San Telmo’s some attractions include some older churches (e.g. San Pedro Telmo), museums, alter stores and a semi-permanent alter fair (Feria de Antiguedades) in the main public square, Plaza Dorrego. Tango-related activities for both locals and tourists also abound in the area. You will find fiesta and beatific food. Nice spot for best travel guides.
