Moscow is one of the most relevant cities on the face of the Earth. Russias capital city is its most inhabited and has deep roots in antiquity and culture. Moscows place in history may seem a little bit much to bear, but that is what adds to its charm and wonder. Those who make the trip to Moscow will experience architecture and sights that are straight out of the pages of the past (and present).

Red Square may very well be the most famous attraction in Moscow, if not all of . Located between the Kremlin and the merchant district known as Kitai-gorod, it is the hub of Moscow. This is due to the fact that many of the citys major roads lead from Red Square to the rest of town. It can be argued that Red Square is actually the hub of the entire country because a large number of national highways also lead to and from the square. Historic edifices circle Red Square such as Lenins Mausoleum, the final resting place of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Saint Basils Cathedral also sits adjacent to the square. GUM Department Store and the State Historical Museum await those who wish to get a taste of Moscows local culture.

After strolling the paths of Red Square, visitors to Moscow may move over to Kitai-gorod to find respite from the bustling city streets. The districts name is derived from the old-Russian word meaning wall. Now, as new-Russian has evolved, it is roughly equivalent to China Town. This recent pronunciation has little to do with what is found within the district, as it is steeped in Russian architecture and surrounded by the reconstructed walls that gave it its name. Kitai-gorod sprang to life in the 1500s, and only two of the original six gates are still found standing. None of the thirteen towers that once overlooked the area survive. Kitai-gorod is known for its breathtaking architecture replete with the instantly recognizable onion domes found on the Church of the Trinity.

As important as history and culture are to Moscow, there is more to the city than that. Gorky Park is a prime example of the recreational pursuits that may be had around town. This 300-acre amusement park that opened in 1928 is perfect for adults and children alike due to the array of rides and play areas for the kids. Rides such as bumper boats and Batman are always popular, and visitors can experience a piece of the space race by climbing into a test unit of the Buran space shuttle program dubbed the Cosmic Experience. The foot paths freeze over in winter, providing ample opportunities for ice skating.

History and entertainment combine to form a terrific experience for visitors to Moscows most popular tourist attractions. Travelers from all over the world take trips to Russia to experience the wonders of its capital. It is a trip that remains in their memories forever.
