We have been concluding our spring yard work in planning for just a return trip to Manzanillo soon. The leaves are just now perfectly out, so we must have 90 or so days of consistent summer, gardening, and Alberta bliss.

can be warmer now and the air-conditioner we placed in the El Faro condo this past year is really a must. Although the average maximum daily temperatures supposedly only vary by 3-4 degrees between summer and winter, the truth is that the summer temperature ranges are influenced by warmer nights and humidity – the contrary of wind chill!

Summer days, June through Sept. are for the most part cloudy and are called the “rainy season”. This pattern of weather genuinely moderates the effect of the temperatures and makes most days incredibly pleasant. Unlike areas in Northern Mexico and the Southern USA in which the summer skies tend to be clearer and temperatures soar, the summers in Manzanillo come to be much wetter and tropical. Considering that the rainy season has this temperature moderating effect, the grocery aisles will contain a shocking variety of northerners who have got made Manzanillo their particular year around home. Most certainly going to during the summer months will not fail and will probably add a handful of beautiful tropical thunder storms. Imagine yourself, dressed in your lightest cottons, and enjoying a clean plate of dorado (mahi-mahi) within a palapa roof on the beach, with maybe a light warm tropical rain!

We’re looking forward to experiencing the area called La Boquita (meaning ‘little mouth’ as a result of tidal estuary nearby), a beach located on the northernmost stretch of Santiago Bay after we return. Manzanillo has a tremendous variety of beaches from lazy quite shallow beaches like La Boquita, to crashing surf where the gulls and pelicans discover their daily rations of fish.

On of our preferred hotels has always been Palmas Real Restaurant and Hotel. This Hotel is accessible by car from just north of Manzanillo or by walking from La Boquita beach. The gardens are idyllic and can be viewed while enjoying a lot better than average food in the palapa style restaurant. The waiters here have a very good sense of humor and we have found it’s a excellent spot to take new arrivals for a classy and beautiful Manzanillo experience.

Within the La Boquita beach you could rent an umbrella (sombrilla), or obtain one completely free by buying “pescado sarandeado” (red snapper grilled on a mesquite fire), a beverage of your choice, after which just laze away the day! This kind of beach may have a good quantity of polite wandering merchants, nevertheless a fast “no gracias” sends them on their own way.

Manzanillo works for us. We are looking forward to making this city our permanent residence , a dream or vision that we have had for much of our lifetime. But Manzanillo or another place would not work without the friendships that people have made and will make while there. Sharing this excellent quality of life with others who have similar vision, is what makes each day special.
