Robie House


The Frederick C. Robie House is a U.S. National Historic Landmark in Chicago, Illinois Hyde Park, 5757 S. Woodlawn Avenue South Side. It was designed and built between 1908 and 1910 by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and is known as the greatest example of his Prairie Style, the first architectural style that was uniquely American. It was designated a National Historic Landmark November 27, 1963 and was the first national registry of historic places over October 15, 1966.

The Brookfield Zoo is a zoo located in the metropolis suburb of Brookfield, Illinois. The zoo covers an area of 216 acres (874,124 m²) and houses around 450 species of animals.

Brookfield Zoo, also known as metropolis Zoological Park, opened on July 1, 1934 and apace gained international recognition for using moats and ditches, instead of cages, to separate animals from visitors and from other animals. The zoo was also the prototypal in USA to exhibit giant pandas, one of which (Su-Lin) has been taxidermied and put on display in Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History. In 1960, Brookfield Zoo built the nation’s prototypal fully-indoor dolphin exhibit, and in the 1980s the zoo introduced Tropic World, the prototypal fully-indoor rain land simulation and the then-largest indoor zoo exhibit in the world.
The Brookfield Zoo is owned by the Cook County Forest Preserve District and managed by the metropolis Zoological Society. The Society sponsors numerous research and conservation efforts globally.

Merchandise Mart, Chicago

Merchandise Mart


When opened in 1930, the Merchandise Mart or the Mart, located in Chicago, Illinois, was the maximal building in the world with 4,000,000 square feet (372,000 m2) of floor space. Previously owned by the Marshall Field family, the Mart centralised Chicago’s indiscriminate goods business by consolidating vendors and change under a single roof. Massive in its construction, and bringing as a sepulture to early 20th century merchandising and architecture, the art deco landmark anchors the daytime skyline at the junction of the metropolis River branches. With upper levels bathed in colored floodlight, the structure stands out against darker downtown buildings in night views. The building continues to be a leading retailing and indiscriminate destination, hosting 20,000 visitors and tenants per day.

The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum in Chicago, Illinois was the first planetarium built in the Western Hemisphere and is the oldest in existence today.

The Adler was founded and built in 1930 by the philanthropist Max Adler, with the assistance of the first director of the planetarium, Philip Fox. Located on Northerly Island, it is a part of Chicago’s Museum Campus along with the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum of Natural History. Chicago city vacations.

Cloud Gate is a public sculpture by British artist Anish Kapoor. It is the centerpiece of the AT&T Plaza in Millennium Park within the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois, and is located on top of Park Grill and adjacent to the Chase Promenade.

The sculpture was constructed between 2004 and 2006 and was temporarily unveiled in the summer of 2004. Nicknamed “The Bean” because of its legume-like shape, its exterior consists of 168 highly polished stainless steel plates. It is 33 feet by 66 feet by 42 feet (10 m × 20 m × 13 m), and weighs 110 short tons (99.8 t; 98.2 long tons). The sculpture and the plaza are sometimes referred to jointly as “Cloud Gate on the AT&T Plaza” or “Cloud Gate on AT&T Plaza”. Chicago city vacations.

The Field Museum of Natural History is located in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It sits on Lake Shore Drive next to Lake Michigan, part of a scenic complex known as the Museum Campus Chicago. Some prized exhibits at The Field Museum include: Sue, the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus currently known.

A comprehensive set of human cultural anthropology exhibits, including artifacts from ancient Egypt, the Pacific Northwest and Tibet. A large and diverse taxidermy collection, featuring many large animals, including two prized African elephants and the infamous Lions of Tsavo, featured in the 1996 movie “The Ghost and the Darkness”. A large collection of dinosaurs in the Evolving Planet exhibit (formerly Life Over Time). A large collection of Native American artifacts.
