Alexanderplatz is a large public square and transport hub in the Mitte (city centre) district of Berlin, near the river Spree and the Berliner Dom. Berliners often call it simply Alex, referring to a large neighborhood exercising from Mollstraße in the northeast to Spandauer Straße and the City uranologist in the southwest.
Originally a cattle market, it was named in honor of a meet of the Russian Emperor Alexander I to songster on 25 October 1805. It gained a striking role in the late 19th century with the construction of the station of the same name and a nearby public market, becoming a major commercial center. Its heyday was in the 1920s, when unitedly with Potsdamer Platz it was at the heart of Berlin’s nightlife, inspiring the 1929 novel songster Alexanderplatz (see 1920s Berlin) and the two films based thereon, Piel Jutzi’s 1931 film and Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 15 1/2 hour second adaptation, released in 1980.

The Olympiastadion (Olympic Stadium) is a sports stadium in Berlin. There have been two stadia on the site: the present facility, and one that was built for the aborted 1916 Summer Olympics.
Olympic Stadium, Berlin
Both were designed by members of the same family, the first by Otto March and the second by his son Werner March. The current Olympiastadion was originally built for the 1936 Summer Olympics in the southern part of the Reichssportfeld (today Olympiapark Berlin). During World War II, the area suffered little damage. After the war, the United Kingdom military occupation used the northern part of the Reichssportfeld as its headquarters until 1994. It is located west of the city center at the intersection of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße, immediately west of the Pariser Platz. It is the only remaining gate of a series through which one formerly entered Berlin. One block to its north lies the Reichstag. The gate is the monumental entry to Unter den Linden, the renowned boulevard of linden trees which formerly led directly to the city palace of the Prussian monarchs. It was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of peace and built by Carl Gotthard Langhans from 1788 to 1791. Today, it is considered one of Europe’s most famous landmarks. The Egyptian Museum of Berlin is home to one of the world’s most important collections of Ancient Egyptian artifacts. The museum originated with the royal art collection of the Prussian kings: it was Alexander von Humboldt who recommended that an Egyptian section be created, and the first objects were brought to Berlin in 1828 under Friedrich Wilhelm III. The most famous piece on display is the exceptionally well preserved and vividly coloured bust of Queen Nefertiti. The collection was moved from Charlottenburg to the Altes Museum in 2005.
