Talking of a refreshed style of travelling, this is really the way! Bestival took place last week on the Isle of Wight and saw thousands of revellers showing off their fancy dress costumes. The majority of Bestival goers travelled the conventional way, although twelve had other plans. Their intention was to swim together and raise money for charity.

This tough group of individuals all received free tickets to the Bestival thanks to the organisers for making the crossing. They crossed one of the busiest strips of water for shipping in the world. For all other party goers it was normal business travelling by Isle of Wight ferry crossing between Lymington and Yarmouth and Portsmouth and Ryde.

The swimmers geared themselves for the Friday start, which took them from Stokes Bay to Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight. Swim2Bestival set out to make some money for the Imibala Trust, and Educational trust based in South Africa, and the Marie Curie Cancer Charity. The Imibala Trust, who are based in South Africa, aim to assist the funding of education for poor children in the region.. A coordinator of the swim, Yasmin Hussein, has previously had first hand experience with the trust and wanted to offer something in return.. The swimmers, who came for all over the UK, wanted to raise enough money to purchase a new school minibus.

Bestival headliner Radio One DJ Rob Da Bank embraced the sponsored swim idea. Not only has he ensured the swimmers received their free entry, but he also allowed them to raise extra money at the Bestival by polishing and cleaning shoes. “It’s a crazy way to get there, but then Bestival is about being crazy”, a swimmer was overheard saying. It is a great boutique type of festival.

Bestival was on for three days in Robin Hill Country Park, a site where it has been established since it began in the early part of the decade. We have not heard any announcements yet about the amount of money raised, but should hear something soon.
